Let’s talk about the itch.
That subtle (or sometimes screaming) internal tug that says, “This can’t be it.” You can be successful, admired, even accomplished, and still feel like something inside you is slowly fading.
If that’s you, know this: nothing’s wrong with you. You’re simply feeling the pull of one of the most vital human drives for Change.
And here’s the truth no one talks about loudly enough: change isn’t reserved for the burnt out or broken. Sometimes it’s the deeply capable, the ones everyone else leans on, who feel it most, because they’ve outgrown the skin they’re in.
I know this from experience. My life looked fine on paper. I ticked every cultural and corporate box. But deep inside, I felt a slow erosion. It wasn’t drama. It was dullness. And it nearly took me under.
Why Change Matters More Than You Think
Change is the drive that keeps you evolving, expanding, surprising even yourself. Without it, your days become beige. Predictable. Numb.
You were not built to run on rinse-and-repeat.
Our brains crave novelty and challenge. Our hearts long for alignment. That mismatch, when your outer life doesn’t reflect your inner growth, is what creates that gnawing dissatisfaction.
Change, when embraced consciously, is not chaos. It’s course correction.
How to Recognise When You’re Due for a Change
If you’re waiting for a breakdown or breakthrough to justify a pivot, don’t. Change doesn’t always come with a lightning bolt. Sometimes it whispers:
“I don’t recognise myself anymore.”
“I’ve checked all the boxes. Why do I still feel stuck?”
“I want more, but I can’t name what it is.”
That’s your soul knocking. Not to destroy what you’ve built, but to evolve it.
My Personal Wake-Up Call
I still remember the moment it hit me. I was sitting in the chair where I used to feed my daughter, completely depleted. I had what the world calls success. But I felt like I was disappearing.
It wasn’t that my life needed a total overhaul. I needed permission to want something different. Something real. Something that felt like mine.
That permission was Change.
It wasn’t graceful. I stumbled, questioned everything, and rebuilt piece by piece. But that drive, the willingness to change, became the spark that saved me.
The Myths That Keep You Stuck
Let’s bust a few lies about change:
Myth #1: You have to be certain before you act.
Nope. Clarity often comes after the first step, not before.Myth #2: You’re being selfish for wanting more.
What’s selfish is modelling a half-lived life to those watching you.Myth #3: You should be grateful and stay put.
You can be grateful and still want change. They’re not mutually exclusive.
Change Doesn’t Mean Burn It All Down
Here’s the thing, most people don’t need a total reinvention. They need a realignment.
That might look like:
Changing how you show up at work, not necessarily changing jobs.
Saying yes to the hobby that lights you up.
Booking the call with the coach (yes, like me) who’ll help you sort your internal mess from your external next move.
It’s about giving yourself permission to evolve. Again. And again.
Start Where You Are
Don’t wait for everything to fall apart. Don’t wait for the job to get unbearable, the burnout to peak, or the Sunday night dread to kick in hard.
Start now. Ask yourself:
Where in my life do I feel bored, drained or resentful?
What small experiment could I try to bring in something new?
What’s one decision I’ve been avoiding?
Then act. Imperfectly, but intentionally.
Change isn’t the enemy. It’s the invitation.
To come home to yourself.
To stop performing and start living.
To rediscover your own damn joy.
It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it. And no, you don’t have to do it alone.
Remember, you can unleash your unique version of success.
Change is simply the door. You already hold the key.
